In March 2019, the Equality & Justice Alliance (EJA) brought together women’s rights activists and LGBT rights activists from across the Caribbean to a Regional Convening in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, convened by Kaleidoscope Trust and Eastern Caribbean Alliance for Diversity and Equality (ECADE). Participants from Saint Lucia, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda were invited to share their experiences of advocating for the reform of discriminatory laws against women and girls and LGBT people across the Caribbean.

“Advocating for Equality” is a short video that shares activists' successes and struggles to advocate for updated laws to protect the rights of women and girls and LGBT people across the Caribbean. The activists reveal the complexities they face when advocating for equality in small island states, and their strategies for advocacy on a small island, including the personal courage needed when standing up for equality for all within small, conservative communities.

The video highlights the unique nature of regional collaboration within the Caribbean, while the heartfelt testimonies show the power of coming together and collaborating within the Caribbean. Together, they emphasize the power of Caribbean islands different strengths when uniting for a common cause.

“Advocating For Equality” reveals the strong sense of optimism activists have as they look to the future, pushing for reform of outdated and discriminatory laws.
